Visiting Puy de Dôme, France

Image
I have been in a weird mood these days. I don't know whether it's the moving to another country finally hitting me or something completely different. I have been feeling dry, emotionally and spiritually. I think that's ok. It is about accepting myself as I come, and striving to be better at every step. Either way, to help me conquer my thoughts and get out of my own head, I thought it would be a good idea to go on a trek. I have been wanting to do this one for such a long time but did not get the opportunity till last week. Puy de Dôme was created 10,7000 years ago by a volcanic eruption back when the Earth was still hot. It is also the highest of the Chaîne de Puys mountain range. To be writing very honestly would be telling my readers that this was a super easy trek. I am used to the height of the Himalayas or even the difficult terrain of the Sahyadris back in my home state, Maharashtra. Compared to all of that, this was nothing at all. It takes approximately 1-ish hour ...

Visiting Lyon during the Fête des Lumières (Festival of Lights), France

Image
2024 was a very special year for the yearly celebration in Lyon where the entire city lights up in order to accommodate the huge amounts of people that come all across the globe to visit something called the "fête des lumières". This year, we had the opportunity to go and inspite of all the fatigue and everything else, it is an experience everyone must have once in their lives!  The History and why this festival is celebrated In the year 1643, the city of Lyon was affected by the plague. A lot of people were losing their lives and that is when the rich decided to give hope calling forth the virgin Mary from the Christian Faith and lighting up the city in her divine benediction and lights. Hence started the Fête des lumières. From the first illuminations in the 1850s, this festival has always been special to Lyon.  All about the event This year there were a total of 32 events all over the city and we started with the most beautiful one, the Basicila of Notre dame de Fourvière,...

Zadar, Croatia

So, there I was. Sitting and researching where to go which would be good for both my heart and my pocket. I was super excited when I found the perfect formula of Ryanair Flights to reach Croatia. Now of course the trip was tiring, especially because my health has not been so great these days. I am so happy that I went, though. It was a life altering experience and I met some of the best people ever.  My host was an awesome dude and I would say that we connected on a spiritual level. Plus, with the recent introduction of Croatia in the Schengen Union, they now use the Euro. Many locals are not happy about this as it means increased prices for nearly the same wages. However, I was told by a person that I met at the airport that all Croatian people at one point were under a communist reign and hence all of them at one point had houses. Those people by ancestral rights, still do have houses. So, Croatia has one of the highest home ownership percentages in the world. It stood at 90.5% p...

Pisa, Italy

One of my favourite places in the world! I met an awesome person at whose home I was hosted and had a totally awesome time. I am so so thankful that I was able to have this awesome experience. Yay! Now,  I was in a bit of a transitional phase, mentally speaking, for the past few days. I had to go back to India to renew my Visa and it was pretty tiring. Then, there were some real adult emotions and changes to deal with. It has been difficult to get myself to write.  Mind you, that is not because of the lack of time or any such thing. It is simply that my mind tends to run wild and I find it difficult to discipline and provide it with a consistent rhythm. When our circumstances do not seem to remain tidy and uniform, the mind tends to wander. Anyway, that was my rant. Call it whatever else you want. This blog is for my personal memory anyway. It is for arranging aspects of experience and making my own stories. I truly appreciate all of you who take the time to go through my jour...
